loganlermanLogan Lerman, Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief. I’ve had my eye on 17-year-old actor Logan Lerman ever since he starred on the WB series Jack & Bobby, and in the years since he’s grown into a sturdy young Tiger Beat teen idol in the making. Next year, he gets his biggest break to date in the title role of Christopher Columbus’ Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief, where he stars as a modern-day teenager who discovers he’s descended from Greek gods. Based on the novel by Rick Riordan, Percy Jackson could eventually spawn a franchise and propel Lerman into leading man territory.

Percy Jackson The Lightning Thief

A new featurette and matching posters have been released for Percy Jackson and The Lightning Thief. The posters, a quad and a one sheet, feature Percy (Logan Lerman) whipping up something of a storm, well he is the son of Poseidon after all! Also starring in Fox’s answer to the Harry Potter series are Pierce Brosnan, Sean Bean, Kevin McKidd, Steve Coogan, Brandon T. Jackson and Uma Thurman as Medusa.

The featurette includes interviews with the cast and previously unseen footage, check out the featurette and the new posters below:

Trouble-prone teen Percy Jackson is about to be kicked out school – but that’s the least of his problems. The gods of Mount Olympus and assorted monsters seem to have walked out of the pages of Percy’s Greek mythology texts and into his life – and they’re not happy. Zeus’ lightning bolt has been stolen, and Percy is the prime suspect. Now, Percy and his friends must embark on a cross-country adventure to catch the true thief, save Percy’s family, and unravel a mystery more powerful than the gods themselves.

The Lightning Thief V. Clash of the Titans

December - 30 - 2009 Comments

2010 is going to take a bit of thunder out of the Twilight sails and put them into Mythology. With the release of Clash of the Titans and The Lightning Thief, we will see a mythology showdown. Here’s how the Journal sizes up the two movies. And take a look at the old Clash of the Titans trailer and the new – compare!

If you know any kids who like books, or if you were a youngster in the early 1980s, you may have heard that there are two major myth-themed movies due out in 2010: the big screen version of the book “Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief,” and the remake of the 1981 movie “Clash of the Titans.”

The release of the two movies in the same calendar year sets up a cinematic clash, as different actors take the roles of some of the same gods and goddesses. Even some of the monsters are the same–Medusa shows up in the ”Percy” books, and also makes an appearance in “Clash.” ”Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief,” is due out Feb. 12, 2010; “Clash of the Titans” will be released March 26, 2010.

The original “Clash of the Titans” was a kind of guilty pleasure that you didn’t have to feel all that guilty about. Sure, it starred a rather cheesy Harry Hamlin as Perseus, and an arguably cheesier Ursula Andress as Aphrodite. But it also featured acting great Laurence Olivier as Zeus, Claire Bloom as Hera and stop-motion special effects by the great Ray Harryhausen, the man behind the visual magic in such films as “The 7th Voyage of Sinbad” (1958) and ”Jason and the Argonauts” (1963). The new “Clash” features Sam Worthington as Perseus, Liam Neeson as Zeus, Ralph Fiennes as Hades, and Danny Huston as Poseidon.

“Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief,” is the first big-screen adaption from the book series by author Rick Riordan. The franchise is basically “Harry Potter” for slightly older kids, boys in particular, and recounts the adventures of a troubled youngster named Percy who finds out that the Greek Gods aren’t myths, and that his real father is Poseidon, god of the sea. The movie version stars Logan Lerman as Percy, Kevin McKidd as Poseidon, Uma Thurman as Medusa, Steve Coogan as Hades, Rosario Dawson as Persephone, and Pierce Brosnan as Chiron, Percy’s centaur mentor.

Myth movie fans will have to wait for 2011 to check out “Thor” with Anthony Hopkins as Odin and Chris Hemsworth as the title character.

Alexandra Daddario Talks Percy Jackson

December - 30 - 2009 Comments

A lead role in a fantasy blockbuster has certainly proved an effective launching pad for starlets lately (see Kristen Stewart in “Twilight” and Emma Watson in the Harry Potter series). That’s good news for up-and-comer Alexandra Daddario, who appears in the big-budget film “Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief,” which hits theaters in February.

eye-daddarioBased on a best-selling book series by Rick Riordan about a boy who discovers he is a descendant of Greek gods, “Percy” stars Hollywood heavies including Uma Thurman, Rosario Dawson, Pierce Brosnan, Catherine Keener and Steve Coogan. (Seventeen-year-old newcomer Logan Lerman plays the flick’s title role.) “Greek gods are so human in so many ways — they love and they hate and they get jealous — and that’s what makes the stories about them so exciting,” explains the actress.

At 23, Daddario hasn’t exactly been pounding the pavement for too long. The New York City native began acting in commercials in elementary school before landing steadier work on “All My Children” at 16. (She transferred from tony Upper East Side all-girls’ school Brearley to the Professional Children’s School to focus on the business full time.) Daddario also appears as Kate in “White Collar,” USA Network’s new crime caper series, which returns in January.

Off screen, the actress is adjusting to life in Los Angeles, where she just relocated, and is enjoying some of the new tricks she picked up on the set of “Percy,” like archery and fencing. “Though I don’t know if I could get into an actual sword fight if I had the chance,” she admits.

Screenwriter Craig Titley Talks About Percy Jackson

December - 24 - 2009 Comments

Craig Titley, the screenwriter for The Lightning Thief talked about what it was like writing the script, and gives advice to aspiring screenwriters. One thing he said that I liked, was that scripts are usually really good, but by the time they go through the process of being made into a film, it can come out horribly.

He talked about how he thinks to himself, “Why does this movie need to be made?” And he said that it was about “Finding the Hidden Power within yourself” And how ‘Percy Jackson’ is dyslexic, and Chiron his mentor is in a wheelchair and how those aren’t disabilities, but they were “Gifts.” He also said to aspiring screenwriters, “You need to love writing. You’re going to be reading and writing screenplays. You can’t just say you want to be a screenwriter. Saying that is like someone saying ‘I want to be a Brain Surgeon, but I don’t like blood’. You just don’t do that.”

December - 22 - 2009 Comments

Ok, so this is quite possibly the coolest, most dynamic billboard we’ve ever seen… the size, detail, color, animation, effects, etc all make it so visually spectacular.

There are several details Logan Lerman shares in this video too about just how special and complete a movie Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief really is. Kevin McKidd, who plays Poseidon in the movie, is in this video too… so check it out.

Logan, Alexandra and Brandon Talk The Lightning Thief

December - 21 - 2009 Comments

Logan Lerman, Alexandra Daddario and Brandon T. Jackson were pulled aside at the ‘Avatar’ premiere and talked about The Lightning Thief. We learn that they performed a lot of their own stunts in The Lightning Thief, which is really cool.

And Brandon is right, Vampires are around but Greek Mythology isn’t giving up that fast. Like we said in a previous post, ‘Clash of the Titans’ another movie on Greek Mythology, comes out the month after The Lightning Thief.

Transcript:

A lot of people are really excited about this Percy Jackson movie. Tell me all about it.

Logan Lerman: “It’s just the most bad-ass film ever made. No, no, no. That’s hyping it up.”

Alexandra Daddario: “It’s a really fun, awesome movie.”

Brandon T Jackson: “We’re really excited because we’re bringing in Greek mythology…”

Logan Lerman: “…to the modern day.”

Brandon T Jackson: “And vampires are cool, you know, but right now it’s about Greek mythology. The son of Poseidon, he’s a demigod that lives in New York City and he’s a teenage demigod. I’m his protector. I’m a satyr.”

Logan Lerman: “It’s a modern-day Hercules story. It’s a lot of fun, you know? I’ve got to battle Medusa, the Hydra, and all those things.”

So is there a lot of green screen?

Logan Lerman: “Yeah. I mean, you know we did pretty much all of our stunts – all of us together. But most of it was green screen though, but any time you see us doing anything, we’re really there. It’s not like they’re animating us in or anything like that. We’re really doing everything. It’s really crazy. So, we just worked our asses off. See the film.”

Did you do a lot of stunts?

Alexandra Daddario: “I did a lot of stunts. I get to play this really bad-ass chick and kick ass.”

Logan Lerman: “She’s so cool in it. She really is. So is Brandon. Brandon kicks ass in it too.”

Brandon T Jackson: “I try to kick some ass.”

Logan Lerman: “They do.”

Alexandra Daddario: “We’re all pretty bad-ass. I got into great shape during this movie.”

Brandon T Jackson: “The thing about this movie is that everybody can see it, too. Yes, parents, teenagers, kids…everybody can love it. It’s not like one of those movies…”

Logan Lerman: “We made it for everyone.”

Brandon T Jackson: “It’s not like one of those movies you sit back and go, ‘Oh my god, I have to sit through this movie for kids.’ No, it’s like, ‘I can enjoy this too.’ And you get to see Uma Thurman as Medusa which is awesome.”

Alexandra Daddario: “She’s amazing and terrifying.”
