Percy Jackson and the Olympians is a 5 book series by author Rick Riordan. The books are title as follows:
- The Lightning Thief
Percy Jackson is a twelve year old boy diagnosed with ADHD and dyslexia, who has been expelled from several schools. On a trip with his mother, his friend Grover, revealed to be a satyr, urgently tells Percy’s mother that Percy must go to a certain camp. As they drive towards camp, they are attacked by a Minotaur which grabs Percy’s mother. She dissolves into a golden shower of light, while Grover and Percy narrowly escape.
Percy later wakes up and discovers that he has arrived in Camp Half-Blood, a secretive training ground for demigods. Thereafter, Percy is moved into the Hermes cabin under the care of Luke, the Cabin counselor. During a Capture the Flag game, Percy is attacked by the children of Ares. He heals when he steps into the adjoining river and is revealed as the son of Poseidon when Poseidon’s trident appears on his forehead. Poseidon had broken an oath taken with Hades and Zeus after World War II of not having any more children because of the prophecy given by the Oracle of Delphi. It stated that a child of one of the Big Three gods (Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades) would make a decision on their sixteenth birthday that would either save or destroy the world. Percy is then granted a quest to find Zeus’s master bolt which Chiron believes Hades has stolen. However, Zeus, who discovered Poseidon had broken his oath, believes Poseidon had Percy steal the bolt. Percy, who has ten days before summer solstice to find the bolt, is given magic shoes by Luke before leaving. However, Chiron tells him that it is a bad idea to use them, so they are given to Grover. Percy, accompanied by Annabeth and Grover, decide to travel west to reach the entrance to the Underworld in Los Angeles. They encounter several Greek monsters, and also the war god, Ares, who tells Percy that his mother is alive. As they approach the pit of Tartarus, Luke’s shoes try to pull Grover into it, but he manages to slip free his hooves. Percy confronts Hades who also believes Percy stole the Master Bolt as well as his Helm of Darkness. Percy realizes that Ares has tricked him when he discovers the bolt in his backpack. He flees from the Underworld, forced to leave his mother. Percy then fights and defeats Ares by hurting the god’s heel. Ares gives Percy the Helm of Darkness which Percy returns to Hades. Percy reaches New York City to give the master bolt to Zeus at the top of Empire State Building where Olympus is now located. Zeus accepts the master bolt and thereafter Percy returns to camp, after learning that his mother is alive. He meets Luke, who reveals that he stole the bolt for Kronos. He calls out a poisonous scorpion which stings and nearly kills Percy. Chiron cures him and Percy leaves to attend another school found by his mother.
- The Sea of Monsters
After having a dream caused by an empathy link between Percy Jackson and Grover , Percy learns that Grover has been captured by the Cyclops Polyphemus, and that he must go save him Grover will be married to Polyphemus the cyclops because Grover manages to convince the cyclops that he is a lady cyclops. Percy learns that his good friend Tyson is a Cyclops, after Percy destroys yet another of his schools due to an attack by the carnivorous Laistrygonians.
While at camp Percy learns that Tyson is also a son of Poseidon and that Thalia’s tree was poisoned, allowing monsters to come through the magical boundaries of Camp Half-Blood. He also learns that Dionysus had blamed and fired Chiron for the poisoning of the tree, replacing the latter with a sadistic ghost named Tantalus. After figuring out that the chariot races were reinstituted by Tantalus, Percy prepares. After losing to Clarisse, because of demon birds, Percy figures out that the only way to save Thalia’s tree, and the camp, is the use of the Golden Fleece. However, when he announces his plans to go on a quest, Tantalus gives it to Clarisse instead.
Percy meets Hermes, in the guise of a jogger on the beach, while pondering whether to go on the quest regardless of Tantalus’ disapproval. Hermes encourages him, wanting him to find and convince Luke to return to the side of good, giving him necessary items to aid him (including magical multivitamins and a thermos containing winds from the four corners of the earth). Along with Annabeth and Tyson, they run away from camp and their cruel new Activities Director, hoping to save Grover from Polyphemus and attain the Golden Fleece as well. They board the Princess Andromeda, Luke’s ship, with the indirect aid of Poseidon, who sent them hippocampi to bring them there. They soon encounter him again, finding out that he was now pledged to the Titans.
Percy also learns that Luke is attempting to bring Kronos back, gaining parts of his body for every creature, monster or mortal, that joins the Titan’s side. After an extended battle, Percy and his friends escape from the ship on a lifeboat that is propelled by the magical thermos given to him by Hermes. Unknowingly, Percy also rescues a black pegasus named Blackjack, who shows his gratefulness by aiding Percy in future books. Percy also learns about his ability to instinctively know his exact coordinates and the distance traveled while at sea.
They reach Chesapeake Bay and rest in a hideout made by Annabeth, Luke and Thalia while they were still runaways. They soon encounter a Hydra, whom they attempted to fight with limited success until they are saved by Clarisse and her ship, the CSS Birmingham.
Her crew, they soon learn, is made up of the spirits of the dead souls of the Birmingham’s original crew that died in the war inhabiting their skeleton bodies, giving them a ghoul-like look. At the to the Sea of Monsters, the ship is destroyed by the engine exploding while fighting the currents of Charybdis and her sister, Scylla, eating up the crew. However, Tyson was in the boiler room attempting to fix the engine when the explosion went off. Percy and Annabeth manage to get into one of the two lifeboats and arrive on an island that houses C.C.’s Spa and Resort. while Annabeth is taken on a tour of the resort, Percy is taken to get a makeover by C.C. However, C.C. turns out to be the sorceress Circe.
After turning Percy into a guinea pig, C.C. attempts to make Annabeth stay with her to become a sorceress like herself. However, Annabeth manages to trick Circe and turn Percy back to his regular self with the vitamins Hermes had given to him earlier. After escaping by taking a ship formerly owned by a half-blood Edward Teach known as the Queen Anne’s Revenge, they arrive at the Siren’s island and Percy makes earplugs out of wax so the Siren’s song won’t affect him. Annabeth, on the other hand wants to hear their song to become wiser. She requests beforehand that Percy tie her to the mast to prevent her from attempting to kill herself, but still manages to escape the ropes that Percy puts on her command. She then heads for the Siren’s island.
Percy goes after her and manages to save her from a gruesome death. They learn afterwards Annabeth’s fatal flaw After returning to the ship, they manage to arrive in the island of the Cyclops, Polyphemus, also home of the Golden Fleece. After getting through the meat-eating flock of huge sheep, Percy and Annabeth get through into Polyphemus’s lair. They try to trick Polyphemus with the identity of “Nobody”, but Annabeth eventually gets caught and is dropped by Polyphemus knocking her out.
After finding Clarisse, who survived the explosion on the other lifeboat alone, and Grover, Percy and the gang attack Polyphemus. While Percy and Clarisse distracted him, Grover gets the motionless Annabeth and they attempt to flee. However, Polyphemus catches up, but an enraged Percy defeats him. Although Percy decides not to kill him, he is smacked away by Polyphemus. Just when Percy is about to die, Polyphemus chocks on a huge rock thrown by Tyson, who had survived the explosion and managed to reach the island courtesy of Rainbow, the hippocampi that Poseidon had sent that he befriended. Polyphemus falls down the chasm and Tyson tells them about he had survived.
They run back to their ships, but Polyphemus, who didn’t die, comes back and attacks them. But Percy and Tyson subdue him and runs away following the others to their ship. Polyphemus does a last ditch-effort to kill them by throwing boulders at them. One hits their ship, but they escape thanks to Rainbow and Rainbow’s friends. After giving the Golden Fleece to Clarisse since it was her quest, they get caught by Luke. After telling Dionysus that Chiron didn’t poison Thalia’s tree but that it was Luke via a secret Iris message, Percy and his friends are saved by Chiron and his relatives.
Once at camp, things return to normal again, with Tantalus fired and Chiron re-recruited. Tyson, however, soon leaves to work at Poseidon’s underwater forges to build weaponry. Later on when they use they use the Golden Fleece to heal the tree, Thalia is revived because of the Fleece’s amazing power. They soon realise that this had all along been Kronos’ plan, to bring yet another child of the Big Three into play. With this cliffhanger, the book concludes.
- The Titan’s Curse
Percy, Thalia and Annabeth go to Westover Hall to meet Grover, who had found two half-bloods there, Bianca and Nico di Angelo, who are siblings. Thalia displays the ability to manipulate The Mist to convince a resident teacher there that the three belonged to the school and not get kicked out before they could find the satyr. Grover soon informs them that Dr. Thorn, the vice-principal of the school, is a monster and is suspicious of the two half-bloods’ true identity. Thalia formulates a plan to distract Dr. Thorn, however the plan backfires.
Percy, who was forced to dance with Annabeth to blend in with the crowd, saw Dr. Thorn attempting to sneak away the two half-bloods. He chose to follow the manticore without backup, leading to him being poisoned and captured. Thalia, Grover, and Annabeth manage to catch up and a battle ensued. However, they were pushed to a dead end, until the Hunters stepped in. Lead by Zoë Nightshade, they pushed the manticore back, forcing him to escape, taking Annabeth with him.
The Hunters set up camp and Percy is invited to have a talk with Artemis, leader of the Hunters. She asks Percy to recount what Dr. Thorn mentioned and concludes that dangerous times were near. She decides to hunt a powerful monster, one that has the power to bring down the gods and Olympus. While she goes alone to do so, Zoë is placed in charge of the Hunters and has to stay at Camp Half-Blood until Artemis returns. Bianca chooses to join the Hunters and attain immortality and a new family, along with forswearing romantic love forever, while leaving her brother to the trust of those at Camp Half-Blood.
The group receives a ride from Apollo, with Thalia at the wheel. The combination results in a gut-retching experience for the group. But at last, they arrive at Camp Half-Blood. Percy and Thalia lead Nico for a conversation with Mr. D and Chiron. The two are quickly forbidden to carry out any rescue plans they have for Annabeth, with Dionysus stating that the chances that she was alive was slim to none.
Chiron announces that a “friendly” game of Capture the Flag was going to be held against the Hunters, as it is a tradition in Camp Half-Blood. Percy returns to his cabin to learn that his father has installed a fountain for him, filled with golden drachma within to remind him to keep in touch with his family. Percy sends an Iris message to Tyson, and learns that the Princess Andromeda is being protected by old spirits and that it was headed to Panamal Canal.
Percy soon has a dream in which Luke tricks Annabeth into holding up the sky, the former burden of Atlas. Percy tells Grover of his dream, only to learn of the possibility that Annabeth was considering to join the Hunters. Percy attempts to seek help from the Oracle, but the Oracle doesn’t respond. Later, after a humiliating defeat in Capture the Flag by the Hunters, Percy and Thalia were about to come to arms when Percy sees the Oracle walking toward Zoë. It was astounding as, according to Chiron, the Oracle never left the antic of the Big House.
A discussion is held about who is to go for the quest. It was decided that Zoë, Thalia, Bianca, Grover and Phoebe would go, leaving Percy protesting. When asked whether his determination was due to Annabeth, Percy hesitates. In the end, the decision was final and there was nothing he could do to change it. Chiron tries to comfort him. Percy then sends an Iris message to his mother, and finds her chatting with Paul Blofis, her new beau. In the end, Sally encourages Percy to do what he thinks is right.
Later, Percy has another dream, in which Artemis takes Annabeth’s place holding the sky to save her from likely death. In the dream, the General tells Luke to kill Annabeth, but Luke convinces the General to let him keep her alive until winter solstice, as further bait. Percy awakes to be called by Blackjack, a pegasus to rescue a marine cow-like creature called the Ophiotaurus, whom Percy names Bessie, not knowing what it is and its true power.
Upon his return, Percy finds Nico eavesdropping on the Hunters. Using Annabeth’s Yankees cap, he turned himself invisible and learns that Phoebe is bedridden due to a prank the Stoll brothers pulled. He quickly stops Nico, who was attempting to follow his sister on the quest. Percy promises Nico that he would do his best to protect Bianca, before taking off on Blackjack and following the group.
They stop at a museum after many hours and from a distance Percy sees Dr. Thorn confirming that Annabeth is alive and that his dream had been true. Dr. Thorn does not go into the museum with the rest of them and instead goes somewhere else. Percy follows, and soon he sees the General and Luke. There the General creates kittens, and fires the foolish mortal who brought him kitty teeth. He finally gets the right teeth, which are used to create skeletal warriors, which are almost impossible to destroy, by putting dinosaur teeth, which is really dragon teeth, into soil and casting a spell. Their original purpose was to kill Zoe and Bianca. The General was about to give them the cloth to get the Hunters’ scent when Percy grabs it. However, the skeletons tear a chunk out of Percy’s sleeve and inhale his scent, making him their target.
Percy quickly escapes using Annabeth’s cap and notifies the others. Though the group (Zoë in particular) was rather surprised and angry to realize he had followed them, they are interrupted when the Nemean lion attacks. Nothing is able to pierce its armor, much to the displeasure of the group. However, Percy discovers a weakness and has an idea to expose it. He finds astronaut food in a gift shop and throws them into the Nemean lion’s mouth. It causes the creature to expose his mouth long enough for Zoë to finish him off with an arrow.
Zoë then gives Percy the price of the lion pelt, saying that he was the one who defeated the lion fair and square, even though she was the one who shot the killing arrow. The skeleton warriors, disguised by The Mist as gray security men, are now following Percy, but Zoë refuses to leave him behind as she realizes that he is the fifth quest member. They soon reach an area called Sun West line after taking many trains to lose their follower. There, they meet a homeless person and share his fire, even though they don’t know that he is in fact Apollo.
Percy soon encounters Apollo again when they get on a train headed west. Apollo advises him to seek out Nereus, the Old Man of the Sea. Percy soon has another dream, in which he is given the sword Anaklusmos by a girl. Unknownst to him, he is in fact seeing through the eyes of Hercules and the girl he later realizes was in fact Zoë Nightshade.
Later, they stop for a break, when Grover faints as Pan’s presence hits him. Following that, the skeletons surround them, using handguns. Though Percy deflects a bullet and cuts down a skeleton warrior, he immediately forms back together, reassembling himself. However, that did not stop another from shooting at Percy. Miraculously, Percy survives and discovers that the pelt he wears is in fact bulletproof.
With help from Apollo, they reach a small town in New Mexico. There they are surrounded by the skeletal warriors. Grover then senses Pan’s presence and a wild gift from him, the Erymanthian boar a giant boar, comes to carry them further on to San Francisco. It takes them to the junkyard of the gods, and Percy meets Ares and talks to Aphrodite, at which point it is hinted that Annabeth and Percy will most likely have a romantic future. Eventually, the group enters the junkyard, where Bianca tries to steal something, an action figure for her younger brother, but she awakens a defective Talos and enters via a maintenance hole in his left foot to destroy him. She succeeds in destroying the prototype Talos, but goes missing afterward. At this time it is undetermined if she is alive or dead.
They reach a river, where the group canoes to the Hoover Dam.They are attacked by the skeletal warriors (but not before making some hysterical ‘dam’ jokes) and Percy meets a mortal girl who can see through the Mist, named Rachel Elizabeth Dare . She saves Percy by confusing the skeletons, allowing Percy and his friends to escape. The group gets trapped on the dam but they fly off on giant angel statues built for Zeus by Athena.
Reaching San Francisco, Percy wrestles Nereus, the Old Man of the Sea, and learns Bessie the Ophiotaurus is the monster they seek, for burning its entrails will give them power to destroy Olympus. Grover takes Bessie back to camp after Thalia is enticed to wield the power by Dr. Thorn, who attacks them on the pier. They manage to get an Iris message to Camp Half Blood and see Dionysus, the Camp director. He saves them after Percy reluctantly asks for help.
They go to see Annabeth’s father to ask for help and he lends them his car, which cannot be returned to him as it explodes due to a lightning bolt that Kronsos threw to make Thailia angry at her father. They climb to the Garden of the Hesperides, where Zoe meets her sisters and is poisoned by the dragon, Ladon. They continue to the place where Atlas used to hold up the sky, and they see Artemis taking on his burden. Annabeth is bound and gagged by Luke and Atlas. Realizing that the prophecy made by the Oracle involved him, Percy takes the burden–the Titan’s curse–from Artemis. In the ensuing fight, Atlas kills his daughter by throwing her against rocks; she is later turned into the constellation “The Hunteress” by Artemis. Artemis gets Atlas to take his burden from Percy, as only a Titan can be forced to bear the sky. In a battle between Thalia and Luke, Luke falls into a chasm; Percy assumes that Luke is dead, but it is confirmed by Poseidon that the traitorous demigod had survived. They go to Mount Olympus via pegasii, including Blackjack.
The gods keep Bessie on Olympus, and Percy learns from Athena that his fatal flaw is (excessive) personal loyalty. Thalia joins Artemis’ Hunters so that she’ll never turn 16, and the prophecy will never be about her. After partying with the gods, they go back to camp. Percy figures out that Nico’s father was Hades after the skeletal warriors appear and Nico unintentionally splits the earth to swallow them up. Nico tells Percy that he hates him for not saving his sister and runs away. While Percy discusses this with Annabeth, Grover arrives, claiming he heard Pan in his mind saying I await you while drinking coffee.
- The Battle of the Labyrinth
The book begins with Percy going to a freshmen orientation class at a high school where Paul Blofis teaches. While there, he meets Rachel Elizabeth Dare, and is attacked by Monsters working for Kronos. Percy and Rachel escape the monsters, but only after the Mist manipulates the battle to make it seem like Percy started the fire. Percy meets up with Annabeth, and go to Camp Half-Blood.
Later, in a camp game designed by Quintus, Annabeth and Percy find an entrance to the Labyrinth, a magical underground maze, under Zeus’s Fist. in the camp. In a dream, Percy finds out that Luke plans to use the Labyrinth entrance to invade Camp Half-Blood. Annabeth leads a quest with Percy, Grover and Tyson to find Daedelus, the maze’s creator. Grover believes he can also find Pan somewhere in the Labyrinth. In the Labyrinth, they come across the minor god Janus, the Queen of Olympus Hera, and rescue an ancient Hundred-Handed One, Briares, from Kampê. They then meet Nico di Angelo at the Triple G Ranch. After defeating a triple-bodied monster at the ranch, they continue on their way, parting paths with Nico, who makes amends with Percy. Once back in the Labyrinth, the foursome match wits with a Sphinx They then split up when Grover claims he can hear Pan calling to him. After a meeting with Hephaestus, Annabeth and Percy go searching for monsters that are invading the forge god’s territory. Before battling the half-dog, half-sea lion monsters, Annabeth kisses Percy. Percy summons water from within himself to defeat the monsters, called Telekhines, but the resulting explosion sends him to a phantom island called Ogygia. Percy encounters a girl named Calypso, who is a daughter of Atlas. Calypso falls in love with Percy, but Percy is forced to leave her when he learns that Camp Half-blood is in danger. With the help of Hephaestus, he gets back to camp
Percy knows that a mortal know the way through the Labyrinth, so he Annabeth and Rachel Elizabeth Dare go back to the Labyrinth and go looking for Grover and Tyson. They find Nico, while they battle monsters that try to attack Daedalus. Percy then opens Kronos’s sarcophagus and finds Luke’s body. This means that Luke is dead, Kronos is back, and he has taken Luke’s body.Percy tries to run from Kronos and Rachel throws a hairbrush on his face. The three then find Grover and Tyson, who find Pan, and watch him as he dies. Then, the four go back to camp and fight in a war between the monsters and the campers. The monsters get defeated, and then Percy goes home. For his birthday, he calls Tyson to his house and Nico comes too. Nico says that he knows how to beat Kronos. The book ends at a cliffhanger as Percy tells Nico, ” Come in and have some cake and ice cream. Sounds like we’ve got a lot to talk about.”
- The Last Olympian
Percy Jackson and his friend Rachel Elizabeth Dare drive to a ridge overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. There, Rachel reveals that her father is sending her to a finishing school and that she wants Percy to vacation with her. Blackjack, a pegasus and Charles Beckendorf, a fellow camper, interrupts by landing on the hood of Paul Blofis’s Prius. He announces that it is time for Percy and himself to take out the Princess Andromeda, a cruise ship filled with monsters. They sneak onto the ship and set Greek fire explosives in the engine room. Percy, thinking the ship has been alerted, leaves the room to distract the monsters on the ship, telling Beckendorf to meet him at a certain point on the ship. Percy is confronted by Lord Kronos, who reveals that Beckendorf has been captured. While on board, Beckendorf sets off the explosives and dies while Percy escapes from the ship, passing out in the ocean from burns and getting touched by Kronos’ sword, rumored to be able to cut a person’s soul away.
Percy dreams as he drifts unconscious through the ocean. The vision took place on Mount Othrys during a conversation between Crius and another unknown Titan revealed to be Hyperion. In the vision, the two Titans talk of the Titans’ plans to destroy Mount Olympus. After the two are done talking, Percy hears Nico di Angelo’s voice telling Percy to follow his plan. As Percy comes to, he realizes that he is in Poseidon’s kingdom and is being tended to by his half-brother, Tyson. He then leads Percy to Poseidon’s throne room where he meets Poseidon’s wife, Amphitrite and Triton, his son. Poseidon then informs Percy that he is battling Oceanus and that Percy must return to Camp Half-Blood to fulfill the rest of the prophecy.Returning to Camp-Half-Blood, Percy and Annabeth retrieve the prophecy from the Oracle and bring it before the camp’s war council. Percy reads the prophecy and decides that regardless of the side he chooses, he would die. Then Clarisse, angered because of not getting a chariot, decides that her cabin and Ares will not support the war. Percy, with the help of Chiron, then discovers that Typhon has escaped his god-made prison and is heading toward the unguarded Mount Olympus to destroy the gods’ domain. Percy and the other counselors of the camp decide they need to concentrate on defending Olympus.
The night following the meeting, Percy dreams of Rachel. In his dream, Rachel looks over two photos she has recently drawn based upon dreams she’s had. The first is a picture of Luke when he was nine years old and the second a picture of Mount Olympus surrounded by lightning and Kronos’s army. The next day, Percy and Annabeth review the camp’s cabins and reviewing reports sent into the camp. One reveals that Grover has disappeared without a trace and that his and Percy’s link is weakening. Percy also discovers that the Ares cabin wants a chariot award to the Apollo cabin, and that they will refuse to fight unless they are given it.
Needing a break, Percy wanders to the training arena to visit Ms. O’Leary, a Hellhound. When he arrives there, Ms. O’Leary runs into the forest, causing Percy to chase after her. He follows her to the clearing where the nature gods of the forest hold their meetings. There, Percy finds Nico, Leneus, one of the Council of Cloven Elders members, and Grover’s girlfriend Juniper talking about Grover’s well being. Leneus initially denies to help Grover, but is then forced by Percy. When Nico and Percy are alone, Percy decides to carry out Nico’s plan and together travel to find Luke’s mother to discover Luke’s past by traveling on Ms. O Leary, who performs shadow traveling.
Percy and Nico arrive at Luke’s mother’s house and find that she is in a psychotic state. Ms. Castellan greets the two boys as if they were Luke when they arrive and are invited to lunch with her. Percy discovers that Luke ran away in order to protect his mother and turned his soul over to the Titans which required his mother’s blessing. Having the information they came for, as they try to leave, Luke’s mother suddenly has a vision of her son ruled by Kronos and cries out in horror. Disturbed, Percy and Nico run from the house to find that Ms. O Leary has been approached by the goddess Hestia. Hestia provides for the boys and then tells Percy that no matter what side he chooses, he must remember her because she is the last Olympian. She goes on to explain that while all the Olympians are gone, she is the only hope for Olympus and that all must remember her when they fight. Hestia then sends Percy and Nico to Percy’s house where they are greeted by his mom and Paul, who finally believes Percy’s mother about his life as a half-blood. Percy and Nico tell her of their plan and she reluctantly gives Percy her blessing, agreeing that he will signal her if he survives the war. Ready to carry out the plan, Nico and Percy travel to Central Park to reach the Underworld.
When Percy and Nico arrive at Central Park, Nico tells Percy they’ll need music to enter the Underworld from that entrance. Suddenly, Percy feels Grover’s presence and using his empathy link to awake Grover out of a deep sleep. Grover falls out of a tree near Percy and Nico. He explains that he was spreading the news about Pan’s death and recruiting fighters when he saw a strange man walking through Central Park where everyone near the strange man was falling asleep. When Grover went to confront the man, he turned his powers on Grover. After Grover’s story, Nico says that Grover had encountered Morpheus and that his pretense meant that the invasion was coming sooner than expected. Grover then plays a song to open the gate to the Underworld before leaving to tell Juniper that he was alive. Traveling into the Underworld, Nico detours Percy towards the gate for the dead ultimately handing him over to the Furies, including Alecto, who posed as Mrs. Dodds in The Lightning Thief. When Percy realizes he’s been tricked, he retaliates against Nico but is stopped by the Furies and has his sword thrown off a cliff leaving him defenseless. Nico explains that his father had promised him information on his past if he turned in Percy. Upon arriving in Hades’s throne room Percy, Nico and Hades are joined by Persephone, and her mother Demeter. As a reward, Hades reveals that he sent Nico and his sister to the magical hotel they were abandoned at to protect them and so that they would never age until they left, and that the lawyer that collected them was Alecto (Mrs.Dodds). Hades promised that he planned to not help out in the fight for Olympus and then after the Titans took over, strike their weakened forces. He then sends off Nico and takes Percy captive.
Percy ends up having a nightmare and wakes up having Nico pinned to the floor of his cell. Nico then helps Percy escape to the river Styx on Mrs. O’Leary. When the two get there, Percy has a talk with Achilles before bathing in the river Styx to become nearly invincible (his only weakness is the small of his back). When Percy is done, he is attacked by Hades’ minions and Hades himself. Percy escapes, telling Nico to stay and convince Hades to fight.
Percy travels to the Empire State Building, meeting up with some other campers. Remembering that one of them could be a spy, he tells the group of his plan to get Zeus to defend Mount Olympus. They head to the 600th floor and find the throne room empty except for Hestia, who is still tending the fire. She sends him a vision of the day Luke and Thalia found Annabeth, the same day Luke gave her the knife she still uses, and when Luke meets his dad, Hermes, for the first time. Afterward, Hestia leaves after Hermes arrives, who relays a message from Athena. They go outside when they find out that all the mortals in New York have fallen asleep because of Morpheus.
